Do you need a Dutch driving licence?

  • EU/EEA licence: you can usually keep driving on it until it expires.
  • Licence from outside the EU/EEA: valid for 185 days after you register with your municipality. After that you need a Dutch licence.
  • Exchange: in some cases you can exchange your licence without exams, for example with the 30% ruling or if your country has an agreement with the Netherlands. Your municipality can tell you more.
  • No exchange possible? Then you take the Dutch theory and practical exams, and Harm prepares you for the practical exam.

Rules can change, so always check the current rules with your municipality or on rdw.nl.
